It's finally real. After two delays, four trailers and more than a decade since GTA V, Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026. I've got the date circled and the pre-load ready to go. This post collects everything Rockstar has actually confirmed, separate from the rumours, so you know what's coming before we all disappear into Leonida for a few months.
"The darkest side of the sunniest place in America." — that's Rockstar's pitch, and every trailer has delivered on it.

Release date and platforms
GTA VI is out November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 (PS5 Pro included) and Xbox Series X|S. It isn't coming to PS4 or Xbox One. Rockstar built this one for current hardware only.
There's no PC version announced. That follows Rockstar's usual pattern: GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both reached PC well after their console launches. If you're PC-only, you'll be waiting, and Rockstar hasn't said for how long.
The long road here
This has been a marathon of a wait, so here's the timeline:
- February 2022: Rockstar confirms the next Grand Theft Auto is in active development.
- September 2022: A huge leak of early development footage hits the internet. Rockstar confirms it's real, but says development continues as planned.
- December 2023: Trailer 1 drops. Rockstar released it a day early after it leaked, and it broke YouTube viewing records. The release window: 2025.
- May 2025: First delay, to May 26, 2026. Trailer 2 follows days later and reveals a lot more of Jason and Lucia.
- November 2025: Second delay, to November 19, 2026. Rockstar said it needed the extra time to deliver the polish people expect.
- 2026: Pre-orders open, then An Extended Look, then the Launch Trailer in mid-October. The date has held ever since.
Two delays hurt, but if the time went into polish, I'll take it. Every Rockstar game that took longer ended up feeling worth it.
The story: Jason and Lucia
GTA VI stars two protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a couple who, in Rockstar's words, have "always known the deck is stacked against them." When an easy score goes wrong, they get pulled into a criminal conspiracy that stretches across Leonida, and the only people they can rely on are each other.
That partnership angle is what has me most interested. GTA V's three protagonists mostly felt like separate stories that crossed paths. Jason and Lucia are a couple, and the trailers sell this as a Bonnie-and-Clyde story where trust is the whole point. Lucia is also the series' first female lead in the modern era, which has been a long time coming.
The supporting cast
Rockstar has introduced more of the people around them:
- Cal Hampton: Jason's friend and associate, a conspiracy-minded guy who'd rather stay home listening in on the Coast Guard.
- Boobie Ike: A Vice City local legend who has turned street money into businesses, including a strip club and a record label.
- Dre'Quan Priest: An artist signed to Boobie's label, Only Raw Records, trying to turn street credibility into a music career.
- Real Dimez: Bae-Luxe and Roxy, a duo who went viral and are trying to turn that into a real music career.
- Raul Bautista: A veteran bank robber who's always looking for new talent for bigger, riskier jobs.
- Brian Heder: An old-school drug runner in the Keys. Jason has been doing work for him.
Welcome to Leonida
Forget Los Santos. GTA VI is set in Leonida, Rockstar's version of Florida, and from everything shown so far it looks like the biggest, most varied map the series has had. The regions revealed so far:
- Vice City: The neon heart of it all. Beaches, nightlife, wealth and bad decisions.
- Leonida Keys: A string of islands and bridges, with boats, bars and sunsets.
- Grassrivers: Rockstar's take on the Everglades. Swamps, airboats and alligators.
- Port Gellhorn: A rundown port town past its prime.
- Ambrosia: Industrial country built around sugar refining, with biker territory nearby.
- Mount Kalaga National Park: Wilderness, trails and hunting country in the north.
If the trailers are anything to go by, the density is unreal: crowds, traffic, wildlife and the most "Florida Man" energy ever put in a game.
Want the gameplay details? The new wanted system, NPCs, Focus, fuel and everything else that makes it play like Red Dead 2 are in my GTA VI gameplay deep dive.
Every trailer so far
- Trailer 1 (December 2023): Our first look at Lucia, Vice City and the tone of the whole thing.
- Trailer 2 (May 2025): A closer look at Jason and Lucia, plus a lot more of the world.
- An Extended Look (2026): More of Leonida, more of the story setup.
- Launch Trailer (October 2026): The final hype push before release.
All four are on Rockstar's official GTA VI page. If you only watch one, watch the Launch Trailer.
Editions, pre-orders and pre-load
- Standard Edition: $79.99 (US). The base game.
- Ultimate Edition: $99.99 (US). The game plus an Ultimate Edition upgrade, which Rockstar describes as "an exclusive collection of items threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia's story."
- Collector's Box: Rockstar's site also lists The Vice City Collection Collector's Box.
Pre-order bonus: the Vintage Vice City Pack, a set of in-game items themed on 1980s Vice City, which is a nice nod to the 2002 original. Digital pre-orders on the PlayStation Store also come with one month of GTA+.
Pre-load: digital pre-orders can download the game seven days early, from November 12. That gets the download out of the way, but you can't play until the 19th.
The music
Radio has always been half of GTA's personality, and VI has a lot going on:
- French electronic duo Justice composed the game's original score. It's adaptive, so it shifts with how you play rather than looping fixed tracks.
- The score gets a standalone album release on December 11, 2026, on streaming, CD and vinyl.
- Alongside that, there's a full licensed soundtrack and a set of in-game radio stations.
As someone who makes beats, the Justice news is the one I'm most excited about. An adaptive electronic score in a Vice City game is a perfect match.
What I'm hyped for
- Jason and Lucia as a team. If the writing lands, this could be Rockstar's best story since Red Dead 2.
- Vice City at current-gen fidelity. The neon, the rain on the streets at night, the beaches at golden hour. Photo mode is going to eat my time.
- The world simulation. Rockstar's open worlds are dense and reactive, and Leonida looks like the most alive one they've made.
- The score and the radio. I'll be listening as much as playing.
My launch-day plan
Pre-load on the 12th. Clear the schedule for the 19th. No spoilers, no YouTube, no group chats until I've had a proper first session. I'll be streaming some of it too, so come hang out on Twitch and Discord if you're playing.
I'll follow this up with a full review once I've spent real time in Leonida. See you in Vice City.
Facts in this post are current as of November 2, 2026, and come from Rockstar Games and the PlayStation Store. Details can change before launch.
