I'm a PC Gamer. I Bought a PS5 Pro for GTA VI Anyway.

Let me get this out of the way: I'm a PC gamer. My main rig runs a Ryzen 3900X, an RTX 2080 Ti and 32GB of RAM (it's all on my About page). My library lives on Steam, my handheld is a Steam Deck, and I've spent years telling people mouse-and-keyboard is the way.
And I just bought a PS5 Pro. For one game.
The problem: GTA VI isn't coming to PC (yet)
Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Rockstar hasn't announced a PC version at all. No date, no window, nothing. There's a report from GamesBeat, citing anonymous sources, that it could land on PC in early 2027, but Rockstar hasn't confirmed anything, and I'm not betting launch day on a rumour.
Rockstar's history with PC isn't encouraging either:
| Game | Console launch | PC launch | The wait |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA IV | April 2008 | December 2008 | ~8 months |
| GTA V | September 2013 | April 2015 | ~19 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 2018 | November 2019 | ~13 months |
So realistically, PC players are looking at a year, maybe more. A year of dodging spoilers, a year of watching everyone else post clips from Vice City, and a year of the internet picking apart every mission before I've played any of them.
Nope. I'm not waiting a year.
Why I didn't just get a base PS5
If I'm going to play the biggest game of the decade on a console, I want the best console version of it. Rockstar's own site literally says GTA VI "plays best on PlayStation 5," and the Pro is the top-end PS5.
To be clear about what's known: Rockstar hasn't said exactly what the PS5 Pro version gets. There's no confirmed 60fps mode, and most coverage expects 30fps across consoles at launch. Where the Pro should help is image quality: sharper resolution, plus Sony's PSSR upscaling and stronger ray tracing in games that use them. I'm not expecting miracles. I'm expecting the cleanest version of Vice City I can get on day one, and that's the whole point.
It also isn't cheap. The PS5 Pro is $899.99 at full price in the US after Sony's April price increase. That's a lot of money to put into a console as a PC guy. But I've spent more on GPUs for less excitement.
How I'm making peace with it
Honestly, the more I've learned about GTA VI, the more it makes sense on a controller and a couch:
- It's built around a controller. Focus mode, the reworked cover, aim assist that's lighter by default, and driving that's been rebuilt with more weight all point that way. I break down every gameplay system in my GTA VI gameplay deep dive.
- It's a slow, cinematic, Red Dead 2-style game, and I played RDR2 the same way: lean back, big screen, take it all in.
- The PS5 has a solid Share button and capture, so clips will still make it to the socials and the stream.
And it's not like the PC is retiring. Everything else I play stays on the rig, and so do the music production and Ableton sessions.
The launch plan
- Pre-load from November 12. The Standard Edition comes with the 7-day pre-load and the Vintage Vice City Pack. (All the edition details are in my launch preview.)
- November 19: controller charged, phone on silent, no spoilers.
- I'll be streaming parts of it on Twitch, so come hang out if you're playing too.
Will I buy it again on PC?
Ask me in a year. If the PC version lands with proper mod support, high frame rates and ultrawide, there's a real chance I double-dip, the same way half the planet bought GTA V three times. But that's future me's problem.
Present me has a PS5 Pro, a pre-load date and seventeen days to go.
PC gamer by heart, Vice City resident by November 19. See you in Leonida.
Release and pricing details current as of November 2, 2026. PC version unannounced; PS5 Pro enhancements for GTA VI not yet detailed by Rockstar.
